This past week, Tiverton Middle School teacher Christine Costa attended the White House History Teacher Institute in Washington, DC. This immersive workshop gathered educators nationwide to learn about White House history via site visits, historians, and access to resources that enhance their curriculum. While in the nation’s Capitol, she caught up with former student and alumna Samantha Cookinham, THS’16, TMS’12, Fort Barton’08. For her senior project at THS in 2016, she hosted and produced her own political show, “Getting Civic with Samantha Cookinham,” where she interviewed U.S. Congressmen David Cicilline, Jim Langevin, and U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. Today, Samantha is an Associate Producer at NBC News and MSNBC on the Live News Editorial and Coverage Team. In true D.C. fashion, while out to dinner, Mrs. Costa, Samantha, and her mom Jean, THS ’85, ran into Senator Whitehouse. @TheWhiteHouseHistoricalAssociation @SenatorSheldonWhitehouse

Thanks to a collaboration with students in @TivertonHighSchool 's Marine Carpentry Technology CTE Program and Mr. Phillips, the Kindergarteners (or shall we say Kinder Gardeners?) at Fort Barton School have a new raised bed garden. These soon-to-be first graders have already put the new garden to use, planting herbs and vegetables with support from Ms. Peckham and Ms. Edwards. In the Fall, the garden will aid in students' learning about the needs of plants. #TomorrowStartsHere #FortBartonProud
