Good Morning Pocasset Families,

Early this morning the Rhode Island Department of Education released the Spring 21-22 RICAS Scores. There has been much discussion across the state about COVID-related learning loss, etc. and RICAS scores decreasing, so I wanted to personally share with you how Pocasset School did.

In ELA (Reading and Writing combined), our previous year's score was 37.9% of third and fourth graders met benchmark on RICAS. For the Spring 21-22 RICAS, 38.9% of third and fourth graders met the RICAS benchmark. Even though the increase was small (1.2%), our students did not show any COVID-related learning loss. In fact, across Rhode Island the average student grew by 50% last year, and at Pocasset our average third and fourth grade student RICAS growth was 54%.

In Math, our previous year's score was 25% of third and fourth graders met benchmark on RICAS. For the Spring 21-22 RICAS 50% of third and fourth graders met the RICAS benchmark. Again, absolutely no evidence of COVID-related learning loss, since we doubled the number of students who met RICAS benchmark. In Math, the average RICAS student growth was 50%, and Pocasset students grew by 62% in math - greatly exceeding the statewide growth rate.

I am so incredibly proud of each and every student, teacher and staff member at Pocasset. I am also so thankful to all of the Pocasset families - we can't improve our school without your help and support. Together, we are showing to all why our school is the best school in Tiverton! #PocassetProud

Gratefully,

Dr. Suzette Wordell, Principal
