Professional Learning for Our Educators

Developing, supporting and continually improving the effectiveness of our educators is the basis for the Tiverton School Department's coordinated professional learning, common planning, and feedback to educators. 

Our district has a standing committee, made up of teachers and administrators, which focuses on professional learning. This committee surveys, listens, and responds to colleagues by developing and coordinating professional learning opportunities that address teachers' areas of interest/need, the advancement of student learning, and the focus areas of the district strategic plan and our five school improvement plans.

Tiverton has  district-wide days dedicated to professional development, as well as early release days on which teachers stay to work collaboratively and be trained.  In addition to these conference-style events, meetings of specific departments, grade levels, and specialists are scheduled throughout the school year to promote professional learning and collaboration.  Support to these small groups is provided by our Assistant Superintendent, other district  leaders, grant-funded presenters, and consultants as needed.
