Premiere Pro 1.5
Adding Transitions

  1. Open your project in premiere

  1. In the project window, click the Effects tab

   3. Five folders will appear;
         presets,
         audio effects,
         audio transitions,
         video effects, and
         video transitions.
We will start with the video transitions, so click the video transitions folder.
A series of subfolders will appear, each contain different types of transitions.

To demonstrate how to add a simple transition to the timeline we are going to
open the dissolve folder and click the Cross Dissolve transition.
Click and drag the transition to the timeline, without releasing the mouse
bring the pointer over the two clips; you should see a negative colored box appear
where the effect will be placed. Release the mouse and the effect is applied to the timeline.
Note that is the negative colored box does not appear, this may be because
there may be a gap between the two clips. Zoom in on the timeline and
make sure that there in no space between the two clips. Even a gap of 1 frame
may cause premiere not to allow you to add the transition. All transitions are applied
the same way; if a different transition is placed on top of another transition the
new transition will overwrite the old transition. The best way to learn what the different
transitions do is to experiment.
