There are four levels of instruction in the curriculum. Tiverton High School uses a 4.0 scale for determining class rank. Class rank is calculated at the end of the junior year and in the middle of the senior year (Seventh semester). Essentially, an “A” is worth more in an Advanced Placement course than an “A” in an Honors course, and an “A” in a Honors Course is worth more than an “A” in a Preparatory course, etc.
This brief explanation is given to assist in understanding how class rank is determined. Students should always choose courses that meet their academic needs and abilities. Questions on this matter should be directed to the student’s guidance counselor or department chairperson.
