Volunteer will provide support to the hospital staff and assistance to the
patients, as appropriate. Duties will
include such activities as passing out food and water to patients,
distributing magazines, delivering flowers, providing clerical support, and
working on the nursing floor or in a clinic environment. Must be 14 years of
age, proof of immunization and TB Vaccination, and attend an orientation. |

takes in stray cats and owner surrendered dogs, and prepares them for
adoption. The Animal Socializer will,

Children

or big sister) Big Friends Little Friends is a program that seeks to partner young
children with older mentors.
Typically, the little friends come from single parent families and are
identified as needing additional support and attention. A “Big” will see their younger partner once
a week for a couple of hours. All
mentors are strongly encouraged to make at least a one year commitment to a
child. Students must be 17 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Contact:

Poverty-Homeless

Hunger and Homeless (cont.) Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen (401)254-0726 Soup Kitchen Volunteer Housed in the parish house of St. Michael's Episcopal
Church, the Bristol Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen and Pantry provides lunch
daily Monday through Friday. The program relies on private donations,
as well as support from local merchants who donate food and other
supplies. The program also includes a food pantry, which allows those
in need to stock up and take food home. Special meals are offered around
holidays, providing patrons with a community celebration. Partnerships
with local elementary schools allow students to offer entertainment or
companionship to patrons. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to prepare meals or organize the pantry. Habitat for Humanity of Greater (508) 636-2205 Construction Assistant Habitat for
Humanity is a joint venture program in which low-income families can purchase
a home that they have helped to build.
Each homeowner is required to invest at least 500 hours of “sweat
equity” into the construction of their home, and/or homes for others. This increases the dignity and pride of
ownership among family members, fosters the development of positive
relationships, and also reduces the cost of the home. Volunteers are needed to ensure that the
costs of construction are kept to a minimum.
Every home is completed at no profit to Habitat for Humanity, whose

Rhythm and Blues Festival Assistant
In the month of
August the Community Center hosts an annual Rhythm and Blues Festival at the
Sakonnet Vineyard in Little Compton.

Drives Occasional drives are held over the course of the year. Food Drive: November- Three food Items= 1 hour of community service; for a maximum of 3 hours, food is donated to the local food bank Giving Tree for up to 6 hours of community service. This program is run in conjunction with Toys for Tots and all toys are distributed to needy families within Tiverton. Hygiene Supplies: each year a drive is sponsored to benefit McCauley House or
Crossroads in toothpaste, deodorant etc. are collected to be distributed to the families supported through Crossroads and McCauley House. Date of Drive varies. Up to 3 hours of community service can be earned this way. |
