Tiverton High School high performing, improving, and RI Regents Commended

Due to significant progress made in both English Language Arts and Mathematics for the past three years, the RI Dept of Education has designated THS as  “High Performing and Improving” and a RI Board of Regents Commended High School.

THS was one of ten out of 59 high schools in the state to receive its high performing and improving category based on its 3 year average proficiency gain in ELA and Math.  The high school was also one of 14 high schools recognized for its significant progress in these areas, and has been “Regents Commended” for the second year in a row.  Among the highlights for this year’s

school report card based on criteria set by the No Child Left Behind Act are:

· All Math test scores in the 3 test categories-20 points higher than the state average.

· ELA test scores in 4 test categories-4-17 points higher than the state average.

· A test participation rate of  99-100%.

· A 93.3% graduation rate.

Thanks again to the efforts and support by parents, teachers, and the guidance department for the successful results.  The class of 2007 will be receiving information about upcoming state assessments at an informational breakfast after February vacation.

Students and parents are reminded that positive state assessment scores benefit both the school and students.  Students that pass 2 of 3 Math sub-tests and 3 of 4 English sub-tests are exempt from taking senior mid-year exams in Math and English.  Additionally, achieving the standard in both areas is a criteria review component for selection to the National Honor Society.
