IT'S FACULTY FOCUS FRIDAY!

Faculty Focus Friday allows the community to meet our teachers both in and outside of their classrooms, through a series of questions.

Meet Ms. Moore - Tiverton High School

TSD: What is one of your hidden talents?
Ms. Moore: "I make stained glass."

TSD: What would the students be surprised to find out about you?
Ms. Moore: "I used to teach dog obedience classes and show dogs and horses."

TSD: What’s a typical Saturday night like for you?
Ms. Moore: "Good dinner, pj's by 7:00, sleep by 9:00ish"

TSD: What are some pets you’ve had or would like to own?
Ms. Moore: "Owned 1 Rottweiler, 3 Standard Poodles, 1 Miniature Poodle, 1 Mixed breed dog. Would LOVE a miniature horse."

TSD: How do you spend your summer breaks?
Ms. Moore: "Lots of reading by the pool or on the beach."

TSD: What would your last meal be?
Ms. Moore: "Definitely Italian...lasagna and garlic bread."

TSD: If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead?
Ms. Moore: "Buy a farm with an assortment of animals."

TSD: What makes a ‘good day’ at school?
Ms. Moore: "Laughing with my students and making connections with them."

TSD: How do you show your school spirit?
Ms. Moore: "Wear school colors, participate in student vs. faculty basketball games."

TSD: What accomplishment fills you with pride so far this year?
Ms. Moore: "Seeing my students' success when they grasp a new concept."

TSD: What sort of morning routine do you have to get jazzed for class?
Ms. Moore: "Coffee! Seriously though staying organized and prepared."

TSD: In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll, even for a day? Why?
Ms. Moore: "Mr. McGuire's. He's so animated and students love him."

TSD: What current trends are baffling to you? Why?
Ms. Moore: "Their (student's) phone/music obsession. They are missing out on life around them."

TSD: If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Ms. Moore: "Don't be afraid of taking chances, even if you lose."

TSD: How do you remember all of your students’ names? Ms. Moore: "Well planned seating charts."

TSD: What’s a school sport or activity you enjoy watching? Ms. Moore: "Unified basketball, girls softball."

TSD: If you could take the students on a field trip to anywhere in the world, where would you take them?
Ms. Moore: "To a deeply impoverished country (no clean water, power, food, etc)."

TSD: What kind of driver were you when you first got your license?
Ms. Moore: "Good. Pretty conservative."

TSD: How do you think students will remember you and your class?
Ms. Moore: "At the beginning of the year I have my students suggest a name for the class. I use this name to get their attention instead of saying "hey guys", "ladies and gentlemen" etc. For example, one of my computer science class' name is "gamers". When they come in they say hello gamer to me and I call out "gamers" to get their attention. This is also gender neutral. They love it."

TSD: If you could grow up in any decade, which would you choose?
Ms. Moore: "60's. Can't beat the music."

TSD: Do you know your sign?
Ms. Moore: "I do read my horoscope many mornings when reading the paper but I'm not obsessed by it."

TSD: What are your must-have smartphone apps?
Ms. Moore: "Weather, Strava, Waze"

TSD: What memories do you have from the first movie you ever saw in theaters?
Ms. Moore: "I think my first movie in a theater was The Shaggy Dog"

TSD: Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by? Ms. Moore: "You have to lose to know how to win."

TSD: What song do you know all the lyrics to?
Ms. Moore: "Stairway to Heaven, all eight minutes of it."

Thank you Ms. Moore!
