This common term which stands for Hypertext Mock Up Language is the code browsers read. It is very time consuming and requires a understanding of this language but it is free. Just start typing your code and text in a simple text editor such as notepad, save as a HTML Document and you are on your way.

Common Applications: Several Software Applications such as MS Word and PowerPoint allow you to save your document as the HTML Format. In fact, if you have a simple design and you don’t have access to a more advanced HTML editor this might be your best available method. However, keep in mind you will have limitations. These programs were not developed for the purpose of producing websites or Digital Portfolios and they often can not accomplish more advanced tasks.

HTML Editors: These software applications are becoming more common place in the Home and Office as the World Wide Web keeps growing. When looking for an HTML editor your best choice is to stick with the big three, Adobe GoLive, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Microsoft FrontPage. Although costly these programs allow the author a great amount of options flexibility when producing a Digital Portfolio. Other software applications such as Adobe PageMill, HomeSite and Netscape Composer offer less options but are more than up to the task of producing a quality portfolio. It is also common for advanced authors to incorporate the use of applications such as Flash and Photoshop in their presentation.
