RI Grade Level Expectations for Student Learning

Posted August 15, 2007

As a requirement of the No Child Left Behind Act, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) has developed grade level and grade span expectations (GLEs, GSEs) for student proficiency.  These expectations have been developed through the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP), in conjunction with Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.  They will be assessed through the Rhode Island state testing program each October in grades 3-8, and in grade 11 in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, and each May in grades 4, 8, and 11 in Science.  All students are required to participate in state testing.
