Richard Reynolds was a sports writer fro t he Providence Journal focusing on high school athletics. He was an avid supporter of all phases of high athletics. Mr. Reynolds covered both boys and girls athletic events year round. Because of his hard work and dedication year after year, he began friendships with umpires and officials in their respected sports, which led to him being a guest at their annual banquets on a regular basis..
The Reynolds Award is a Sportsmanship award given to a Rhode Island high school football team voted on by the RI Football Officials. After each game, officials rate each team, coaching staff, and fans on their sportsmanship during the game. Based on a weekly point system, the scores are tallies and the team with the highest points is awarded the Richard Reynolds Sportsmanship Award for its outstanding sportsmanship play.
